ABOUT SBVI

Our founder and chief appraiser, James Lisi, began his career as an industrial engineer at the University of Michigan where he was introduced to engineering economics - the valuation of capital projects.  A typical analysis would determine whether it is better for a manufacturing company to build a factory in North Carolina or Mexico based upon the set-up costs, operating costs and lifetime of each project.  While earning an MBA at the University of California, Irvine he had more valuation coursework, and then a business career in manufacturing, distribution and his own small business.  He also spent several years with Tech Coast Angels.

During the entrepreneurial phase of his career, he was asked to join American ValueMetrics as a part-time analyst, and produced about a half dozen reports per year under the mentorship of Gerald Barney, a former investment banker and business broker.

SBV was formed in 2013 and began working as an independent contractor to American ValueMetrics and later to The Mentor Group.  In 2020, SBV began operating under its own name.

Jim has been published multiple times in publications such as The Value Examiner, Business Valuation Update, National Association of Estate Planners and Councils, Pacific Coast Business Times and Santa Barbara Lawyer.

SBV's goals are to provide a fundamentally sound value to each client, to advocate in the valuation profession for micro-economic methods, and to pass on intrinsic valuation knowledge to others interested in scientific approaches to valuation.
